Abstract

Introduction. Suicidal behavior in adolescence is characterized by high prevalence, multifactorial determination, genetic predisposition, significant medical and social consequences, and regional differences. Objective: to study the main clinical and anamnestic characteristics of adolescents with suicidal and non-suicidal self-harming behavior based on the data of a psychiatric hospital of the Transbaikal Territory. Material and Methods. Archival materials (medical records, case histories) of 375 patients aged 15-17 years who underwent inpatient treatment in 2019-2023 at the State Healthcare Institution “Regional Clinical Psychiatric Hospital named after V.Kh. Kandinsky” for self-harming behavior were analyzed. Socio-demographic indicators, family history, clinical forms of autoaggressive behavior, psychiatric diagnoses, and associated behavioral risks were assessed. Results. The girls predominated in the sample (74.9%). Most adolescents with suicidal and non-suicidal self-harming behavior lived in cities (60.3%) and were raised in single-parent families (66.7%). Conflictual or formal intra-family relationships were identified in 70.9% of cases, and a hereditary history of psychopathology was found in 44.5%. Demonstrative (45.3%) and affective (24.8%) manifestations predominated in the clinical structure. Self-cutting was the most common method (43.5%). The leading causal factors were interpersonal conflicts (24.0%) and depressive experiences (17.3%). The demonstrative form of self-harming behavior was significantly associated with alcohol intoxication. Mixed disorders of behavior and emotions predominated in the structure of mental disorders (43.1%). Conclusion. Adolescents of the Transbaikal Territory with suicidal and non-suicidal self-harming behavior are characterized by pronounced social and family dysfunction, prevalence of demonstrative and affective forms of auto-aggressive behavior, and affective-behavioral disorders.
